What's So Special About Today?
Eight years ago today I stood up in front of a room of people at a health and wellbeing exhibition to talk about 'How To Stay Positive When Things Go Wrong'.
My choice of topics was a tough one for me at the time, and beyond ironic, because I wasn’t in a good place at all. I was in an emotional quicksand, sinking deeper into despair, stuck in a rut, utterly disillusioned and disheartened. I’d lost sight of every single resource I’d relied on in the past to get me through the emotions I was now experiencing.
To rub salt in the wound, many of the people around me were overwhelmed and depressed by their own life challenges too; buried in debt, struggling with bullying and nastiness at work, nursing loved ones through critical illness and dealing with health crises of their own. Beyond my own circles, the wider world was experiencing economic and political turmoil, devastating natural disasters and inconceivable human destruction.
There’s no doubt in my mind that the powerful, deep-rooted and unsettling emotions I was experiencing around that time shaped my presentation in the most incredible, life-changing way.
I made a decision to deliver a talk that would make a real difference to those present. I focused on the transformational impact I was hoping it would have on my audience and prayed for inspiration.
And then, as if by magic, I received a message of gratitude from a friend, telling me how much they loved my outlook and positive attitude to life no matter what I was going through. This wonderfully uplifting feedback reignited the drive I’d lost and gave me a sense of purpose. I wanted to share it with others!
